From Carmel, CA; born in San Francisco, CA, July 4, 1941; education: attended Carmel, CA, public schools; B.S., biology, Willamette University, Salem, OR; studied at the Monterey Institute of International Studies; served in the Peace Corps for two years in Colombia, South America; worked as a consultant and employee of the California Assembly; elected to the California Assembly, 1980-93; member: Committees on Education, Insurance, and Natural Resources; married to Shary Baldwin; one daughter: Jessica; committee: Appropriations; subcommittees: Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies; Military Quality of Life and Veterans' Affairs, and Related Agencies; elected on June 8, 1993, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Representative Leon Panetta; reelected to each succeeding Congress.
